MENTAL ADVOCACY









Mavis A. Creagh is a dedicated community leader, nonprofit executive, and mental health advocate whose work with the National Alliance on Mental Illness has made a meaningful impact across Mississippi and beyond. Serving as both President of the NAMI Pine Belt affiliate and a member of the NAMI Mississippi Board of Directors, she has been instrumental in expanding mental health awareness, education, and support within underserved communities. Creagh has led initiatives such as organizing NAMI Walks, chairing state conferences, and helping establish new local affiliates to reach populations at higher risk and often lacking access to care. Her leadership reflects a deep commitment to collaboration, advocacy, and breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness, drawing not only from her professional expertise but also from her personal journey of overcoming trauma. Through her work, Mavis continues to empower individuals and families, ensuring that mental health resources are accessible, community-driven, and rooted in compassion.

Mavis A. Creagh’s impact in the community has been widely recognized through numerous prestigious awards and honors at the local, state, and national levels, reflecting both the depth and consistency of her service. Her accolades include the Jerry Mauldin Corporate Award from the NAACP, recognition as a Top 10 Business Woman of the Year and a Top 50 Under 40 honoree by the Mississippi Business Journal, and the Bill Gwyn “Non-Rotarian” of the Year Award from the Rotary Club of Hattiesburg. She has also been named one of the 100 Awesome People of Hattiesburg, received a National Nonprofit Leader Award, and earned distinctions such as the Honorary Ambassador Award and multiple nominations for top nonprofit leadership. Earlier in her career, she was inducted into a Lifetime Achievement Hall of Fame during Black History celebrations and recognized as Humanitarian of the Year for her service to others. Across every stage of her journey, these honors reflect a legacy built on leadership, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to uplifting her community.
